  1. RHCV DRIVES FORWARD WITH D & D

    A family owned Langley Mill distribution firm is investing £135,000 in two new trucks.

    D & D Transport is a family owned business established in the early 90’s in Nottingham and runs a fleet of 20 vehicles.  It provides distribution for blue chip customers such as Tesco and Royal Mail – providing door to door delivery across the UK.

    The company’s fleet comprises small vans up to articulated 44 tonne trucks and delivers anything from a pallet to a full trailer load.  Its fleet includes curtain-siders, low loaders and crane vehicles.

    As part of its investment in its staff and the business, D & D has purchased the new Euro 5 Premiums trucks from local Renault trucks dealer RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV) to add to its growing fleet.

    As part of its commitment to investing in its workforce D & D also delivers its own CPC  training (Certificate of Professional Competence).  Under a new European Union Directive, in addition to a vocational driving licence drivers of trucks over 3.5 tonnes must have obtain a Driver CPC.

    Based in Langley Mill – just off the M1, at junction 26 – D & D Transport is located almost midway between RHCV’s Nottingham head quarters and its new 64,000 sq ft site in Alfterton. RHCV already has sites in Nottingham and Leicester and purchased Alfreton based Cotes Park Commercials this summer, as part of its strategic expansion across the East Midlands.

    As well as purchasing the new vehicles D & D also works with RHCV to maintain and service its fleet.  Dave Palmer, Director at D & D comments “Reliability is key to our business, we have to deliver on time, so it is essential we invest in both new vehicles and their maintenance to ensure our clients can depend on us.

    “Costs are continually increasing for commercial vehicles from licence duty, to insurance and fuel – adding to fleet management costs, so it is crucial that we maintain our fleet to the highest standards. RHCV gives us the backup and support we need to keep our vehicles on the road.”

    The capital investment in the Renault Premium Tractor units is part of D & D’s long term plan ahead of the Euro 6 exhaust legislation aimed at reducing emissions.  This legislation is part of a wider global approach to reducing harmful emissions from commercial vehicles which comes into force in 2014.

    Figures released on 5 December for November commercial vehicle registrations showed a continuation of the sector’s upward momentum, with an increase of 22.7% in sales to 28,057 units and sees a 10.9 % rise in figures year on year.

    The data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders indicates that a bumper November will see the sector breach the 300,000 mark for the first time in five years. Last month saw the total number of vans and trucks registered increase significantly on 2012, with trucks growing 39.3% and taking the total number of vehicles sold this year to 44,867.

  2. Truckfest Original

    With winter approaching some people may have already forgotten about the sunshine that graced us for the weekend of Truckfest.

    A sunny weekend in Newark with trucks, lots of trucks. What more can you ask for!? Perhaps you might want monster trucks, the fearless Broke FMX Bike display and celebrities? But we had those too!

    We met Lisa Kelly and Alex Deborogski from the American Ice Road Truckers programme, and also current Coronation Street and ex-Eastenders star Michelle Collins (who tested out one of the new Renault Trucks).

    The new range trucks were really the true stars of the show, leading the truck exhibitor parade around the main arena.

    Although the trucks were on loan from Renault Trucks HQ who have done all the Truckfest shows this season, we are looking forward to getting our own demonstrator vehicles very soon.

  4. A Truck-Load of New Recruits

    Trucks dealer RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV), which has branches in Nottingham, Leicester and Alfreton, is expanding its workforce with four new recruits.

    This expansion is part of its ongoing investment plans, and is the largest new staff in take since the company went independent in 2012.

    Paul Pearson, commercial director at RHCV comments, “Our new staff hires complement the growth we are seeing in the business. The recruits cover a wide range of areas in the business from sales to service and have demonstrated performance in their areas of expertise.

     “In the spring of this year we purchased Cotes Park Commercials, a new 64,000 sq ft site in Alfreton as part of our strategic expansion into Derbyshire and to increase our footprint.”

    Gary Standring, from Sandiacre, has been brought in as an additional sales executive to cover the North of Nottinghamshire, which includes the newly acquired Cotes Park Commercials in Alfreton.

    Gary commented, “I drove HGVs and LCVs as part of my previous sales role, and so I understand what drivers and companies are looking for in a new truck.

    “We are currently awaiting our new range Renault Trucks demonstrator vehicles, so we can show customers Renault Trucks’ extensively developed Euro 6 offering.”

    Anthony Milward, who started his career in commercial vehicles as an apprentice mechanic over 20 years ago, is taking on the newly created role of service reception manager.

    The creation of the service reception manager position highlights a significant investment into the service and repair arm of the business.

    Anthony, who lives in Bulwell, comments, “This new role at RHCV is just the opportunity I’ve been looking for. It’s a new and interesting role. As service reception manager, I’ll be able to help customers with all the information they need. It’s all about help not jargon!”

    The company currently employs around 65 staff across the three sites. Two of the new staff, Melanie Ince and Sarah Charlesworth, join the administrative team as sales administrator and purchase ledger clerk respectively.

  5. RHCV are going to Truckfest!

    RHCV haven’t been to Truckfest for some years, so this year we’re returning in style!

    Truckfest will host the much anticipated East Midlands launch of Renault Truck’s exciting new range, as well as lot more to keep you entertained.

    There’s non- stop main arena with Monster Trucks, as well as the fearless Broke FMX Bike display along with the Renault Trucks exhibitor parade.


    Plus Ice Road Truckers Lisa Kelly and Alex Deborogski will be at the showground signing autograph and the like.

  6. Lending a Helping Hand

    Taking part in what has been a fantastic community initiative, RHCV have helped to deliver two lighting rigs to Meadow Lane, the home of Notts County FC!

    Paul Pearson, Commercial Director, at RHCV, commented, “We are a local, family run business, and so doing our part to help in this project can only help to serve the wider community. We were more than happy to lend a hand in this endeavour.”

    Tom Gallagher, Max Keizer, Janice Leung and Mark Mennear – students from Nottingham University – produced four lighting rigs to encourage grass growth in all the problem areas of the Meadow Lane playing surface.

    The students were helped by Nottinghamshire Police, who supplied the lamps which had been seized in cannabis raids, as well as Ailsen Ltd, who provided the workspace for the rigs to be constructed.

    These new lighting rigs, which effectively produce a false sunlight and encourage grass growth, should see a dramatic improvement in the level of remedial work that the groundstaff are able to carry out on the pitch during the forthcoming season.

    Stadium Manager Greg Smith said of the new lighting rigs: “It’s been a long hard season here at Meadow Lane and for this to happen it only gives us a bit of forward thinking for next season that we’ve got something that we can use to help support the pitch. We’d really like to thank RHCV for their help in delivering these huge rigs”

  7. New Sales Executive Wanted!

    As part of its expansion northwards Renault Trucks dealer RH Commercial Vehicles is creating a new role and recruiting for additional sales executive.

    RHCV are actively looking for an experienced sales person – who is a self-starter, target driven, highly motivated and keen to work with the business as it grows and develops.

    This new role covering North Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire is to start immediately. The role will include identifying new sales leads as well as building on existing contacts and building long-term relationships with clients across the East Midlands.

    The ideal candidate must be computer literate, have a clean driving licence, have a proven track record in delivering B2B sales (min of 5 years), and keen to learn about a new industry and its products.

  8. RHCV Drives Expansion Northwards

    Renault Trucks dealer RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV) is expanding its footprint northwards with a new 64,000 sq ft site in Derbyshire, its first in the county. RHCV – who already have sites in Nottingham and Leicester have purchased Alfreton based Cotes Park Commercials for an undisclosed sum as part of its strategic expansion across the East Midlands.

    Established for 30 years Cotes Park Commercials currently provides service and repair of all makes of vehicles across the whole of Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. The current team of five is being retained and will be boosted with three additional new members of staff this year. RHCV plan to invest a substantial amount in the site over the next 12 months with the addition of a new local Renault parts stock, diagnostic equipment and tooling to boost the service offered to new and existing customers.

    The Alfreton business will remain as Cotes Park Commercials in the short term and will eventually be rebranded as RH Commercial Vehicles.

    Nigel Baxter, Managing Director at RHCV comments: “We have been looking at expansion in this vicinity for some time and Cotes Park is the perfect fit for RHCV. Ideally located with excellent accessibility the site is just off the A38 and M1 motorway (junction 28) the new site offers a four bay workshop with room for further expansion.

    This acquisition forms an integral part of the on-going development of our network so that we can provide first class sales, parts, service and repair facilities to our existing and expanding customer base. Extending our footprint takes us closer to our customers, making it easier for them to do business with us. This purchase means we are now in a stronger position to grow our market share across the East Midlands.” He added.

    RHCV were advised on the acquisition by Fraser Brown solicitors. Gavin White, corporate partner at Fraser Brown comments “We are delighted to have assisted RHCV on another transaction. This acquisition demonstrates RHCV’s commitment to develop and expand it’s business and we wish them the best of success with Cotes Park.”

    RHCV has a turnover of £17m and specialises in sales, parts and servicing for heavy and light commercial vehicles from its head office in Nottingham, plus a 8,000 sq ft Leicester branch.

    The previous owners of Cotes Park Commercials Robert and Mike Knowles will stay with the business for a period of handover. Robert Knowles commented; “We’re really pleased that the excellent RHCV team will be taking over Cotes Park Commercials this will enable the business to flourish and grow in the coming years. We’ve run the business for over 30 years and it is really important for us to find a safe, yet innovative pair of hands for this operation.”

    RHCV’s purpose built facilities in Nottingham delivers a full range of sales and aftermarket services including a dedicated paint shop and a designated MOT bay. It also has a Leicester site which operates as a full Renault Trucks Repairer providing repair, maintenance and vehicle supply.

  9. Nurturing Award Winning Apprentices at RHCV

    Two of RHCV’s apprentices from Nottingham have had their achievements recognised after being awarded runners up for Renault’s Apprentice of the Year competition.

    Edward Rollinson was runner up in his year Group (Year 3) and Matt Long was runner up in his year group (Year 2), selected from applicants from across the 57 dealers across the UK. Both Edward and Matt were also rewarded for their efforts with a £150 bonus.

    Edward, from Kirkby in Ashfield, has recently graduated from his apprenticeship after completing the three years of training, and is now working at the RHCV site in Nottingham.

    Jim McNeil, Workshop Manager, commented on the award win, “Both of the guys are a testament to the success of apprenticeships at RHCV, where every year we come away with either a runner up or winner in at least one category.”

    Edward, alongside Matt, who is from Kirklington, split their study between onsite training in Nottingham and the Renault Headquarters in Dunstable

    RHCV now employ four apprentices, two in Nottingham and two in Leicester, and they are looking forward to next year’s competition.

  10. Top team wins awards

    The team RHCV was recognised with four accolades last month at a glittering annual dealer awards dinner at Birmingham’s ICC – our largest win to date.

    The event was attended by representatives from Renault Trucks dealerships across the UK and Ireland.  RHCV was acknowledged with both individual and group awards.

    Jim McNeil was given the Top Service Manager award which is judged on all round performance and achievement of key customer service targets.  This is a closely contested award, it was noted that “his dedication to service excellence made him stand out from the rest”.

    Adrian Godber was given the Top Used Vehicle Salesman award “this individual has not just been successful in selling volume; he has adhered to the principals and high standards of Renault Trucks”.

    Also RHCV’s Director Paul Pearson became part of the Renault Trucks Financial Services Millionaires Club – which recognised the salesmen that have written more than a million pounds worth of truck finance business in 2012. This Club is largely made of sales personnel; Paul has achieved this in addition to working to manage the change of ownership and the day-to-day running of the business.

    The business was also recognised with the Club Excellence award one of only five given out across the UK and IrelandThis recognises the highest performing dealers in the UK & Ireland network across all areas of the business including sales and customer service.

    Paul Pearson commented: “The whole team should be congratulated for their continued hard work.  RHCV has done exceptionally well, considering it was also a year of huge transformation with the change of ownership last year.   We certainly did our bit and flew the flag for Nottingham and Leicester.”
