RHCV Supply College with Vehicles to Boost Logistics Careers

East Midlands independent commercial vehicle distributors RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV) has worked in partnership with South Essex College to construct two branded LGV lorries, designed to support students and the local community to enter a career in logistics.

Two branded lorries supplied by RHCV will be used to train LGV drivers from all walks of life, such as students on LGV apprenticeship programmes, those who are unemployed, or anyone who wants a change of career.

Located over three main sites, South Essex College offer a range of transport-based qualifications alongside a wealth of logistics support training to students of all ages, including undergraduates, adults and businesses. To assist the various courses available, the college purchased two Renault Class 1 and 2 lorries which have a Euro 6 engine, the lowest emissions available. They include:

  • An additional set in the cab for two learner drivers to be in the lorry with their instructor.
  • Four cameras situated on the left.
  • An additional window in the nearside door which enhances the view of the learner driver. (This requirement allows them to be used to deliver training in London).

Andy Cross, Sales Executive at RHCV, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with various members of the team at South Essex College and with third-party suppliers to make sure the lorries meet the specific specifications.

“With the current national shortage of drivers, these vehicles will impact, introduce and increase the number of qualified drivers into the logistics and transport industry.”

Mark Bentley, Operations Director of Logistics at South Essex College, said: “Moving into LGV driver training is a significant step in the development of our logistics provision. The logistics department will not only support individual learners but will also help local businesses grow their operation in the future.”

Strategically located across the East Midlands, RHCV has expanded from four (Nottingham, Leicester, Alfreton, and Northampton) to six sites this year – with two new locations in Newark and Peterborough.

RHCV has a successful track-record of selling, leasing, servicing, and repairing heavy (HGV) and light commercial (LCV) vehicles across the East Midlands for over four decades and employs over 140 staff.  The business also provides a comprehensive range of rental/lease options through sister company, RH Rentals.
