Things to consider when buying a trailer to tow vehicles

Brian James has over 40 years’ experience in designing and building high-performance trailers. Their heritage is in motorsport – an industry where reliability and performance are key and they have become recognised as the first choice for car trailers.

Whether you’re in professional automotive logistics or looking to move a track car around the country, you’re going to need a reliable trailer. With a multitude of options in the market, finding the right trailer can be a challenge. Here are some considerations to help you find the right one.

Are you moving one vehicle or different ones?

If you’re a professional vehicle mover you’re going to need maximum flexibility in the types of cars you can transport. You’ll also need to balance size and weight of vehicles with the size and weight of your trailer. The T Transporter is designed for the professional logistics market and can carry up to 2600kg. It’s available in different lengths and widths and with two or three axles.

If you want to carry high value cars then one of the enclosed trailers will offer ultimate protection from adverse weather and prying eyes.

Take the Race Transporter 6 for example – the twin side doors, pedestrian doors and front/rear hatches make access easy. LED lighting makes visibility a priority ion low light conditions while a four camera enables 360° vision for all round visibility and safe manoeuvring. There’s an extensive choice of options enabling you to personalise the trailer for your needs whether it’s for transporting a classic, exotics or for motoring.

If you have a track car and are looking for an open trailer, the A Transporter range certainly fits the bill. Again, this is a class leading trailer seen at circuits up and down the country. Like other trailers, it is available in different sizes and widths.

What tow will you be using?

Every car has a maximum towing weight. If the towing vehicle has maximum permitted towing weight of 2500Kg, then you are only allowed to tow a combined weight of up to 2500Kg. This is with the weight of the trailer and the vehicle that’s on it combined. So, check the limit of the tow vehicle and the car you want to load before choosing a trailer. The weight of all trailers are listed on our website configurator and the weights auto-adjust taking into account any options you add on.

What options do I need?

The range of optional extras can significantly boost your towing experience. Assistor ramps, tilt beds, and winches can all be fitted to ensure loading goes as smoothly as possible.
